About Her

ABOUT HER

Poppy is a free-spirited, playful dog of just over a year. She’s a sniffer and a chaser who is at her happiest outdoors exploring the world or a backyard, and wrestling other doggy playmates. She’s a sweetheart who deserves the right home and family to give her love and attention. Some things to know if you feel you could be that person for her:

  • Just over a year old black lab mix

  • 43 lbs and not expected to be any bigger (maybe slightly heavier as she fills in)

  • Fully vaccinated including H3N2/H3N8 (canine influenza) and Leptospirosis

  • Currently on Simparica Trio to prevent flea/tick/heartworm

  • Microchipped and Spayed

  • Trained for Sit, Stay, Down, Wait, Come, Leave It (inside only), Shake (paw), and is working on Roll Over

  • Sleeps in her crate, but doesn't LOVE the crate.

  • Decent on a leash walk, though can be periodically reactive

  • Big fan of the hose

  • Can be left loose in the house alone for up to 3 hours, but gets really lonely

  • Loves tug and chew toys, and almost always uses one as the other

  • LOVES the hose

  • Plays well with other dogs at off leash parks, though can be a little too rough still for some smaller dogs

  • Will chase any squirrels

  • Hikes off leash well, though recall could use work

  • Did I mention the hose?

Important To Note

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

She’s allergic to something that we are still working to determine. It causes itching, sneezing and some fur loss under her armpits. Currently she’s on a hydrolyzed kibble diet so we can rule out foods, but we are not certain yet what. Likely Beef, but we haven't ruled out salmon, chicken, or dairy yet fully.

She can be growly inside sometimes when she doesn't want to be pet by anyone, or a specific person. (She has never bitten, but she consistently won’t let one of her parents pet her inside by growling.)

She can be mouthy with people when playing, especially hands and wrists. It’s gentle and affectionate, but it’s a bad habit we've been working to curb.

She can be occasionally reactive on walks to adults, kids, or other dogs. Mostly she’s fine saying hi to any of them, but occasionally wants to jump up and bark at them. Reactivity training would be helpful here.
